When I reflect on the journey of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), I am filled with deep pride and gratitude. What began in 1957 as a modest initiative of the Government of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has today grown into a national institution that symbolizes trust, scale, and innovation. Entrusted with the crucial responsibility of strengthening agricultural marketing and ensuring food security in the early years of our independence, CWC has since become a vital force in India’s logistics and supply chain evolution.

From storing harvests in the fields to managing containerized cargo for industries across the nation, our transformation mirrors India’s own economic progress. With 17 Regional Offices and a network of more than 750 warehouses across the country, CWC today operates one of the largest logistics and warehousing systems in Asia. Our reach extends from bustling metros to remote rural regions, serving as a backbone of both traditional agriculture and modern industry.

Over the years, we have steadily evolved from a warehouse operator into a Navratna logistics enterprise offering integrated, end-to-end supply chain solutions. Our portfolio today encompasses rail and road transportation, ISO-certified pest control services, temperature-controlled storage, inventory management, and state-of-the-art Grade A warehouses designed for diverse commodities and industries.

This diversity enables us to serve a broad spectrum of sectors including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, chemicals, retail, and e-commerce. We take pride in being a trusted partner in their journeys of growth and expansion.

Redefining Rail Logistics

Among our proudest achievements is our role in transforming rail logistics in India. Through our strategically located Rail Linked Warehousing Complexes, we have created seamless linkages between global trade corridors and domestic markets, enabling efficient movement of both EXIM and domestic cargo.

In 2007, we entered into a concession agreement with Indian Railways and were granted a Category I Container Train Operator license for operations across the country. Today, with a fleet of over one thousand containers and nine rakes, we continue to expand our presence in containerized cargo movement.

A landmark moment in our journey was becoming one of the first Container Train Operators in India to introduce double stack container trains for domestic cargo. This innovation enhanced efficiency, maximized capacity utilization, and reduced logistics costs, reinforcing our reputation for precision, reliability, and foresight.

Expanding Global Horizons

CWC has scripted a defining chapter in its growth story by successfully dispatching its maiden international shipment from Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu to New York, a moment that truly symbolizes a giant leap in global logistics. Riding on this momentum, CWC achieved another milestone by dispatching its second international container within just three days, seamlessly connecting Hosur, Tamil Nadu to New York Port via JNPT Nhava Sheva.

Continuing to broaden its global reach, CWC also orchestrated the import of fourteen ocean freight containers from Poti, Georgia to Tuticorin, reaffirming its evolving prowess as a dynamic, borderless logistics powerhouse. These achievements mark the beginning of a new era for CWC, as we step beyond national boundaries to establish an integrated presence in international trade corridors.

Innovation, Sustainability, and Growth

At CWC, we believe that progress thrives on innovation and collaboration. By partnering with logistics enterprises, technology leaders, and government institutions, we continue to strengthen our operational efficiency and deliver higher value to our customers.

Equally important is our commitment to sustainability. We are incorporating energy-efficient designs, modern waste management practices, and eco-friendly transport systems across our operations. Our vision is clear, to drive growth that is both responsible and enduring, and to contribute meaningfully to a cleaner, greener future.

Our performance reflects this collective spirit of excellence. We earned the trust of organizations such as NCERT, Big-Basket, LG, Borosil, and Berger Paints, and achieved our highest ever total income of ₹2,776.88 crore along with a record Profit Before Tax of ₹711.60 crore in FY 2024–25. These results are a testament to our strong fundamentals, financial discipline, and the tireless dedication of our teams across India.

From empowering farmers in our formative years to enabling complex, technology-driven supply chains today, CWC has been an integral part of India’s growth narrative. Each milestone, whether introducing double stack trains, linking ports with production centres, or ensuring the seamless delivery of critical cargo, strengthens our resolve to redefine logistics excellence in the country.

As we look ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission to build a logistics ecosystem that drives efficiency, innovation, and national progress. Together, we will continue to power India’s growth story responsibly, inclusively, and sustainably.
